Altura Learning (Formerly Aged Care Channel) is proud to present their course Infection Control: An Overview which explores how infectious agents spread and identifies simple precautions which you can use to control, prevent and reduce the risk of infection.
Preventing the spread of infection is everyone’s business. In Australia, it is estimated that each person residing in aged care develops between one and three infections every year. Developing an infection is the number one cause of aged care residents being transferred to hospital, which is why this new ACC course, available from March 7, 2018, is so important.
In order to prevent the spread of infection, it is imperative that every single person who works or volunteers in aged care is aware of the simple precautions that must be taken in infection control. Infection Control: An Overview explains why older people are at an increased risk from infections and explores different types of infectious agents, or micro-organisms, describing the harm they can cause.
In this new Altura Learning course you will discover the links in the chain of infection and how you can break them, while learning the standard precautions used to prevent and control the spread of infection. You will study the correct use of personal protective equipment and how to perform correct hand hygiene, as per the Five Moments of Hand Hygiene. This course is supported with a suite of learning resources designed to help you implement these strategies for infection control, including a hand hygiene skills assessment.
